First things first, I left being the head coach of UTC in July to come back to my alma mater, Iowa State. It was very hard to leave Chattanooga, and my dream of being a head coach, but to come back to Ames in any capacity was something I never ever thought would happen. My family and I are back and it could not be going any better, seeing old friends and enjoying Iowa again. As for the job, it has been a blessing getting to know this team and their personalities, and boy do they ever have some personalities! These guys are committed, and are working extremely hard to accomplish their goals. We kick off the season, this Thursday, against South Dakota State then on Saturday we host the Harold Nichols open on our campus. My family has settled in real well as well, Josie , my oldest daughter is in the middle of basketball. She has never played before, but is doing awesome and really loves it! She has also played in a soccer and softball league already since the move. Ellie, my youngest is in gymnastics and loves it, she just pulled off her first backhand spring. Look Out Now. My wife is happy to be back home and has been awesome in getting our house set up and making sure the kids are active. As for me, I had elbow surgery 6 weeks ago, and I still healing, but feel great! I have not wrestled competitively since the US Open last April. I am just getting back in shape and wrestling as much as I can. I love coaching these guys and look forward to a great year! Check back often as I will update as much as possible. Take care, Chris
Check out our camp site www.istatewrestlingcamps.com

Enjoy Every Day

I know we have all heard it before, live everyday like it is your last. You never now what is in store for you day to day. I had the pleasure of meeting a young man, Zac yesterday at Blanks Children Hospital. Zac, has leukemia. He is a tough, brave kid who is a wrestler. He has won numerous tournaments, and even pinned an opponent at the state tournament last year. Zac will not be able to wrestle for at least 3 years due to treatment schedule. Zac has inspired me to wake up everyday and be thankful for my life, the good, bad and ugly. I am thankful for healthy kids, a great family, and a job! I enjoy the sun coming up and the simple pleasures of life. I wish i would have been able to do this a long time ago, but when i was competing, and coaching, that was all i thought about, being the best in the world. I could not enjoy to much. Now i find time to step back and be thankful for eveything in life. No matter what life throws at you, embrace it, deal with it, and enjoy it! Thanks Zac for the inspiration, i will always look up to you. Keep up the fight!
www.chrisbono.com
www.cyclonewrestlingclub.org
